about

When I was a young boy, my father made me a peculiar promise: that if it was in any way possible, he would let me know that all was fine when he passed on. Obviously, it was a bizarre promise – that my dad would send me a message from beyond the grave – so I forgot all about it.

My dad loved owls; he loved them so much he’d leave out food for the ones who lived in our woods. He died when I was 38 years old on a cold, brittle December day, and the week after we buried him, an owl came screeching and knocking at our window. It stayed there for a long time pecking and communicating with us in its own insistent language. It came and stared in our window every night for over a week and my three-year-old son insisted it was Grandpa.

Straight faced and unprompted, for him it was simply a fact of life – Grandpa had come to see us. Mystery and magic speak to us constantly, if only we had eyes to see. We need to learn how to reconnect like a three-year-old, to deepen into the myths of our land: we need to remember to worship the sea, the trees and the owls. Instead of being in thrall to an economic system that only rewards the few and sets us on a path into the Underworld, we could choose to worship the reality of our Living Earth, who rewards all who care for her. Nature is our true path, one we should never have stepped away from.

about

Alex H Duncan UK

“Welcome to my world where humans tread very carefully."
I am fascinated by music primarily made from plants and fungi using a plantwave. I collect the midi and put together music made by non humans. Understand them, listen, maybe be a bit kinder. After all they do sustain our very existence.
