Why 'The Path'?

I have been making music from data collected in nature for more than four years. Its patterns, cadences and musical structures fill me with awe and delight. Endlessly, I connect to deep mycelium networks or mighty oaks and smile. It is amazing. But, like any music full of tonal changes and unusual time signatures, it takes hours of listening to fall into those rhythms and melodies.

This new work is an attempt to lead you to those musical places, gently removing most of the human elements. Mycelium data collected from the earth runs continuously through the album with above ground data providing points of change along the journey.

The human elements I have included are an attempt to clear a path through this woodland and across these cliffs. This place is wonderful, let's not fuck this up. Follow the path. It could be fun.

I am fascinated by music primarily made from plants and fungi using a plantwave. I collect the midi and put together music made by non humans. Understand them, listen, maybe be a bit kinder. After all they do sustain our very existence.

This is as good as the officially released WRNTDP titles on CIS. Very pleased to pick it up, where the pieces here are longer than most on the records they benefit from the slow unwinding they are afforded. The 18 minute live set excerpt is particularly immersive. Wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to release this on vinyl as a companion to the inevitable repressing of This Nation's Most Central Location. Great stuff. Oh and you get a cool magazine to read as well. Awesome. shaun rogan
